ARE MARRIAGES IMPORTANT?
Marriage is a lifelong commitment made by two people. They promise to stand by each other, share their happiness as well as their sorrows and support each other throughout. The ritual has been a part of almost all the communities for ages.
Initially, it was started to establish good relationships between rulers, and the women were traded if we look at the ancient text. But with time, marriage became more romantic and started the norm of marrying someone and spending your life with someone you love. Thus, the idea grew into a culture and is an integral part of one’s life now.
However survey done by international schools in India shows that with time there has also been a growing trend of divorces and marriages falling apart. This has also instilled a reluctance towards marriage in the younger generations.
It has also been noticed that there is a growing trend towards people remaining single or in-live in relationships rather than getting married. However, for various reasons, marriages are essential, and although it is a personal choice to get married or not and even maintain one or not.
But one must try to create such a bond with someone because hey, when they say that it is a magical feeling, they are not lying, you know.
Another research done by a top international girls school shows that marriage is not only a physical commitment but also an emotional and spiritual one. It is about having someone by your side, no matter what. Marriages also connect people at a level that they try more challenging to maintain their relationship, learn from each other, respect each other more and care about one another.
This type of bond might not be formed in a superficial relationship or even a live-in one because the commitment is not that strong. Even those who decide to stay single might sometimes feel the need to have someone with whom they can emotionally connect at a deeper level.
And let us face it, we cannot expect such things from our friends because after a point they will get busy in their own lives, maybe start their own family and hence might not devote enough time to you.
Another reason why marriages are extremely important is that it is about bringing two individuals to close and bringing two families together. When it comes to two families of other cultures, religions, caste, or ethnicity, marriages play an essential part in reducing the differences between different communities.
For example, in countries like India, inter-caste and inter-religion unions help two communities come together, understand each other’s differences, and minimize any communal hatred or discrimination based on caste and religion.
This has a profound meaning when it comes to acceptance of another community. It is also essential for the LGBTQIA community as it serves as a mark of their love and their freedom to love and spend their life with the person they love.
For years, marriages of the queer community or inter-caste marriages have been rejected by society. In many areas, people are even killed, often termed honor killing, if they take any such step. However, every time any such marriage happens, two families have decided to leave the differences behind.
In conclusion, marriages are a significant part of our society, and rightly so. It gives people a chance to start a new family and fulfill their dreams with their better half. It can be a great experience if you are with the right person and even if you are not with one, take your time and meet new people because someone out there is a perfect match for you and waiting with all their love
