Cell phones should be banned in schools
As students, cell phones are a big part of our lives. We use them for social media, texting, and calling friends/family. However, cell phones can also be a major distraction in the classroom. Not only can they lead to cheating and inappropriate behavior, but some teachers think that they are bad for learning. I believe that cell phones should be banned in schools.
There is an increasing amount of evidence that cell phones have negative effects on teen’s brain development. This is concerning considering the research conducted the top/best schools in India that nearly 75% of teens ages 12–17 are online almost constantly. In addition to social media and gaming applications, teens often use their cell phones to text, browse the internet and play videos.
The negative effects of this technology do not stop with social media or addiction, but rather extend to growing brains that are still developing into adulthood. Studies have shown that cell phones can cause brain tumors, depression, sleep problems and memory loss among young adults and teenagers.
I’m sure we’re all familiar with the phrase ‘a picture paints a thousand words.’ It has been used so often and incorrectly it is surprising that none of us have already sued for plagiarism. We’ve all seen it though — perhaps in an article or on our Facebook news feed. Someone is probably trying to use this phrase now, while reading this very article, and failing miserably at it.
Cell Phones in Schools
Cell phones should be banned in schools. Cell phones are a distraction to students and school administrators. Most students use their cell phones for texting, which isn’t considered a great study tool. Texting is dangerous because students can send texts while driving their cars to school.
An article on the website, parents.com, states that “students who text message frequently are more distracted, miss more information and have greater difficulty with problem solving than they did before they started using the technology.”(parents.com) In addition, the article states that kids think they’re communicating with friends and family when they’re actually learning useless information like homework assignments, test dates and time changes.
Students should not have to worry about getting distracted by their cell phones during class or at school events such as dances or football games. Students would be better off not having them at all to avoid getting distracted.
If there were no cell phones at school, teachers could actually teach without having to worry about whether or not the student is texting or doing something else that could harm the student or other people around them. This would give students more freedom in class without a distraction of a cell phone.
All cell phones should be banned in schools. Cell phones have become a distraction and a major disruption in classrooms across the country. Students use them to text each other when they should be paying attention in class, they use them on tests to cheat and they use them as weapons.
All students should be prohibited from bringing cell phones to school and they should be subject to confiscation if they are caught with one on campus. The proposed ban will protect teachers from the distractions caused by cell phones, encourage students to pay attention during class, and protect students from the serious consequences of cell phone violence.
