HOW TO ATTAIN PEACE OF MIND IN TODAY’S CHAOTIC LIFESTYLE?
Let us start with a simple question. How much time did you take out for yourself today? On the basis of data collected by survey done on schools in India, most of the people would spend time thinking about their daily schedule and realize that they did not take out any time for their mental peace or maybe even realize that it has been a long since they did something that gave you a break and made you happy.
Most of us are so caught up in this competitive world that we ignore our mental and physical health to earn more money, be in a better position, and for mere temporary happiness. We forget that success is less about more money, a bigger house, expensive possessions, and more about one’s inner joy, peace of mind, freedom to do what we want to, express ourselves, and have loving family members and friends.
One must understand that in the end, it is memories that matter, stories to tell your grandchildren, life lessons to give to your children and friends to celebrate with.
If you think that you cannot take care of yourself, you have lost your mental peace somewhere in this world, and you cannot give enough time to those you love, you might want to take a small break and reflect upon your daily routine.
It is perfectly natural to feel the burden of performing better in every field, but at the end of the day, if it is taking your mental peace away, think about it and try to change a few things. A well renowned international school in India did a survey on this, and here are some suggestions they come up with:
Some tips for you to consider to attain peace of mind
1. Take things easy- Allow yourself a little break now and then. This does not mean procrastinating too much or leave all the work. It means that if you feel you are doing too much, then take a break. Think of there is something that you do not need to stress about too much or can altogether leave. Could you take it one at a time? This will let you have time for yourself. Avoid taking too much work on yourself. If it is something that you are doing for someone else and do not want to, learn to say no.
2. Understand that you are not responsible for everything- Many of us are tensed about performing up to someone’s expectations to keep others happy. We also sometimes ignore our problems to solve others’. You must understand and accept that someone else’s happiness is not your responsibility. At the same time, you must also avoid depending on others for your happiness. No one is entitled to keep others smiling.
Though friends and family need to support each other and celebrate each others’ achievements, you cannot, and even they cannot always keep you happy.
3. Meditate- A simple way to achieve mental peace is to meditate every day. Even if it is only for 10 minutes. Meditation brings mindfulness. It allows you to forget about your surroundings for some time and focus only on yourself.
4. Do what is suitable for you- After listening to what the world wants from you, your parents, friends, or something you are doing just because everyone else is. Take time and think, is this really what is best for you. Do what makes you happy and keeps the fire in you alive. Do not hesitate to try something new just because a few people think that you will fail. And even if you do, it is a part of learning, and we are all just learning.
Make yourself a priority; there is nothing wrong with that.
