Ever have to juggle multiple tasks at once? Whether it is schoolwork, side jobs, or something else you have going on. It can be extremely difficult to manage your time as you’re trying to complete one task after another. I’ve found a system that works wonders to help me keep track of what I need to do while not quickly forgetting what needs to be done.

Ahhh…multi-tasking. It sounds so appealing, doesn’t it? Why do you need to focus on ‘just’ one thing when you can have three, four or even five projects going on at once? Well, I’m here to tell you that multi-tasking still isn’t the best approach. We can usually work more effectively if we don’t jump from one task to the next.

Even with a great to-do list, you may find it difficult to balance all the tasks in your life. There are some simple ways to get better at managing multiple tasks. As per survey done by students of day schools in Pune, here are some tips for managing your tasks

Three tips for task management:

1. Decide how much time you are going to invest in each task

If you have 30 minutes, that is great! Make a realistic plan on how long it will take you to complete the said task and then move on to the next one on your list.

2. Separate your work tasks from your personal tasks

At work, try not to bring personal problems onto the job and vice versa. Try not to let either task interfere with the other but if it does, it’s okay.

3. Take breaks when needed

It is very important that you take a break after spending too much time focusing on one activity or another. Your mind needs a break so that it can be recharged and ready for more work.

4. Do one thing at a time

This seems obvious but so many people multitask. The problem is that our brains just aren’t designed to do multiple things simultaneously. When we try, we just end up doing both tasks half-assedly and wasting time on rework or corrections. Focus on one thing before moving onto another.*

5. Set goals for yourself

When you have smaller specific goals in place, it helps you keep track of what’s going well and what isn’t. Your goals should be SMART.

6. Prioritize

Create a list of your most pressing tasks, then start at the top and work your way down. You might find that one project will take longer than anticipated or you might think of something else that needs your attention immediately, which is why it’s so helpful to note this in your list. If you’re constantly switching back and forth between projects or lists, it’s easy to lose focus on what you’re doing and how long each task will take.

7. Break up big projects into smaller ones

One reason people get overwhelmed with multiple tasks is that they have one large project. Breaking them down into several projects make it all more achievable in the set time.

Takeaway

It is not easy to manage multiple tasks at once, but there are a few techniques you can use to make your job easier. The best way to manage your time and complete everything in a timely manner are to set aside time for each task. This will prevent you from running around without finishing any of the chores you need doing.
