It all depends on how your daughter is. I feel that a girls school gives a sense of individuality to women while a coed schools in India gives a broader picture of the world to come. Both are experiences worth taking, I myself got to experience both as I attended a co-ed school and a women’s college.

So here are the advantages of attending both types of schools

Co-Ed School

Studies have shown that people who attend schools with students of the opposite- sex have boosted their confidence intellect because their self-image has matured by making new friends, playing sports and participating in class discussions.

The findings reflect the fact that these students have attended an environment where everyone — both male and female — is expected to be a leader and make smart decisions. They gain a deeper respect for both sexes and see things from different perspectives, and this shows in their achievement scores and graduate rates.

Co-ed school students are much more versatile, unbiased and egalitarian than their counterparts in single sex schools. Here similar interests bring people together and not their genders.

You get to learn about the experience of someone who is radically different from you. This experience can be really helpful for you to adjust to new types of people and understand human behavior which can be really helpful for you in the future.

Co-ed schools offer an education that is far different from the traditional approach and allows students to learn from each other. By interacting with the opposite sex, you’ll be faced with new social situations, develop your emotional maturity and make friends for life. You’ll laugh more, gain a broader perspective on people, enjoy increased self confidence, gain a better understanding of the opposite gender, and this will help you in all aspects of your career later in life.

Experiencing different emotions and being in relationships makes children more mature. It shouldn’t be viewed as a distraction but embraced as an experience. The emotional maturity gained by spending time in a close-knit environment with peers is simply irreplaceable.

Being in a co-ed school will enrich your child’s emotional growth and positively redefine his or her outlook on life, making them well-rounded individuals who are confident and capable in social settings.

Girls School

A girl in a girls school in India no longer needs to fit herself into a boy’s world. She can create her own world. Often they are met with stereotypes which leads to a lack of confidence or even conditions them into some roles. They often fit into the “role” of being a girl and find themselves trying to fit into the preexisting structure.

In a girls only school girls get to explore themselves more and truly discover their abilities without being hindered by social structures. Easier to experiment and step out of comfort zones: Being in the presence of the other sex may lead to hesitation or can be uncomforting for teenage girls. This leads to girls not outwardly presenting their interests or skills due to fear of judgement.

For example a lot of girls don’t participate in sports as they fear being considered too masculine. While the world outside is continuously evolving the structure of Indian society is still very stern. Parents also divide actions into a binary but studying in their daughter a girls school where all girls are participating in sports they aren’t able to do so.

There are cases in schools where girls are subjected to eve teasing or even are molested in co-ed schools. Often common folk resort to victim blaming and in some parts of the country, parents take their girls out of schools putting an end to the education of a girl.

There are a lot of girls in our country, in small towns, where women are allowed to study after succumbing to various conditions. Surfacing of such an incident can lead to discontinuation of their studies and that’s why girls endure such behaviors while not informing or reporting these things. In an all girls environment if such a thing happens girls can report to their teachers.

Girls, in terms of hormonal development, experience many changes in their body in their teenage years. Being in a girls only environment makes it easier for them to accept these changes as compared to being in a co-ed environment where they have to face seclusion when they are menstruating. In a girls only school there is more awareness and hence acceptance and that’s why girls here can also share their thoughts and problems especially with their classmates.
