WAYS IN WHICH STUDENTS WASTE THEIR TIME IN COLLEGE
College life is the most exciting and vital time of an individual’s life. It plays a significant role in shaping one’s future and helps people in growing as a person. It also paves a path toward our career and helps us become more responsible as a result.
According to the supreme teaching staff of Schools in Mumbai, college is not just about the subject you study or the specialization you pursue. It is more about the person you become professionally and personally. While in school, a significant part of our learning goes toward the occupation we would pursue. In a college, the choices get narrowed down. Here, a student needs to ace the career path that he/she has chosen by becoming a professional and learning all the aspects of that subject.
However, many of us take college life very lightly and seldom ponder how to get the best out of it. To spend our best time in college, we must be aware of how not to waste our precious time concentrating on our academics and building our CV, and taking time off to make the best memories with our friends.
A few ways as told by the Schools in Pune that eat up most of our time without giving any good output are listed below:
1. Internet Surfing: Going to college creates a lot of social pressure compared to that in schools. Students often start taking social media too seriously and spend a lot of time on Instagram, WhatsApp, and Snapchat. Also, to be a part of all the discussions and fit into the group, students spend a lot of their time watching the movies or series that everyone is talking about. This shifts their focus from the main reason for which they are in the college
2. Afraid to ask questions: Our education system is such that we are taught that it is wrong to make mistakes from childhood. As we grow and come to college, the fear of making mistakes increases as we are afraid of what our peers would think. Due to this, we don’t clearly understand concepts and keep our doubts to ourselves. This can lead to declining grades in college.
3. Wasting time between classes: Students often get an hour or two free periods between classes in colleges. Those who live on campus have an easy choice of going for a nap or some rest in their rooms, but many students are stuck as they cannot go back to their homes. More often than not, this time between classes is not utilized and is spent in the ground or canteen.
4. Taking time management lightly: Once in college, students have to focus on many things, from classes, and grades to peer pressure and college societies. Under such circumstances, it is crucial to manage time properly. A lot of students resort to pulling all-nighters when they have to study, not realizing that the brain can focus for only a limited amount of time, and after that, it stops storing any information. It is essential to manage the little time that one has in such a way that they do not miss out on important things.
5. Taking too much stress: Being in college brings the pressure of being good at everything. Students often compare themselves to others and put a lot of pressure on themselves to perform well in all fields. Students burden themselves in order to be the best. This can have physical as well as mental consequences. One must realize that one should become the best version of themselves and not try to constantly compare themselves with others.
6. Doing work or reading things that might not be too important: Students often waste too much time dwelling upon small things that might not be too important in the study. Due to this, they often miss out on the major points. Many also take up work/internships that might not be necessary for them or play any role in their career, but they take it as other students do. There should be a realization of what the goal is and how to reach it, and other things should be given less priority.
7. Bad at organizing things: Most college students are starting to stay alone for the first time, and it takes them time to adjust. It is helpful if one has things organized in order to avoid any last-minute chaos. Poor organization also contributes to the waste of time.
In the end, I would like to emphasize the proper utilization of time in your college life. Many people would say enjoy while you are at and that after that your life gets hard, but one needs to limit this fun. Fun and life should be balanced so as to secure a good life.
