What is the difference between a government school and a private school in India?
History of education in India
India has a 5000-year history of educational institutions. When we speak of education, we either mean primary education or secondary education. The change of thoughts relating to different forms of education took place in the progressive era (between 1820 to 1860).
Although the first initiation to formal education in India occurred around 1500 B.C, it is a well-accepted fact that an appropriate system of formal education came into being only after the advent of the British Raj. The British brought to India an educational system based on the European countries during their colonial regime.
In today’s fast-changing and developing world, education has emerged as a vital tool for each and every individual of the country to achieve self-reliance and development and now you can find numerous top schools in India.
Government schools in India
A government school is a school directly funded by the government of India. Many states in India fund their own schools. You can say that it is a completely funded school which means the government pays for everything — land, construction, teachers’ salaries, and books, etc. The good thing about the government schools is that they are free (or nearly free.) Students from all castes and economic backgrounds can study together and no students are turned away due to financial reasons.
Private schools in India
When we talk about private schools, people will expect certain things from them. There is a certain reputation attached to the term private schools. However, the difference between the two is innumerable. When it comes to comparing a government school and a private school in India, there are many differences that set them apart from each other.
Private schools in India are considered to be much better than government schools and the reasons vary from factors like discipline, career-oriented curriculum, infrastructure and facilities, experienced teachers, and even the distance from home.
