International schools are called so because these schools follow an internationally recognized curriculum, which means that after class 12th your child will be able to apply for colleges abroad. CBSE, CISE, ISC and IB are boards which are recognized internationally and so if a school follows any of these boards it might call itself an international school in India.

However the difference in boards can drastically change you.

The International Baccalaureate (IB) board is gradually becoming the preferred choice for students who aim to apply overseas. The board is known for providing practical experiences as compared to the CBSE board (which most “international” schools follow). Such learnings lead to a more holistic development of an individual. It refers to the process by which we accumulate and internalize information and learn skills.

This can be contrasted with rote learning, which is seen in state and CBSE boards, is a more passive, non-accumulative process of trying to remember something for a large part of the test. In contrast to rote learning, holistic development means that we take information from our environment and apply it to new situations, creating a better understanding of how things work.

Another aspect of the IB board is providing a multicultural environment to the students.

We live in an increasingly global society — people of various nationalities, ethnicities, cultures and religions are working together towards common goals. To tackle any of the challenges that we may be exposed to in the 21st century, it is important that we understand what diversity means and that we become more adapted to working with people who can be completely different than us.

The most effective way for young people to think about diversity is by living in close proximity to one another. This allows them to engage with each other on a daily basis, share their cultures and truly understand diversity on a day-to-day

The concept of multiculturalism in educational settings is an interdisciplinary and multidimensional concept combining the fields of cultural studies and educational studies. Multiculturalism is a core principle that ensures that individuals can take part in an inclusive and democratic society.

It also recognizes the importance of leadership in terms of promoting social justice and equity for underrepresented individuals, such as women and minorities.

A student therefore needs to learn about more than what surrounds them. Schools, a place where students spend extended periods and so it’s here that they should learn about multiculturalism.

Exposure to a global environment gives a student an ability to learn about new skills and opportunities. It also helps them in gauging their own abilities on the real world level as a student can compete with international students. On the other hand, not being exposed to the global system can have both positive and negative effects.

The positive part being the less pressure on the student which allows them to grow at their own pace while the negative aspect could be how a student may suffer from stagnancy once they are best in their school and hence will have no motivation to improve.

Choosing an top international school should be a must for a student, but you should know what kind of curriculum (CBSE or something else) will be suitable for you according to your own abilities.
